Tawakkul (Placing faith in Allah)

(Certainly, the believers are those whose hearts are filled with awe when (the name of) Allah is mentioned; and when His verses are recited to them, it makes them more developed in faith; and in their Lord they place their trust.  Surah 8, Verse 2)
  • Hadith:  The one who wishes to be the richest of people, he should place his faith in what Allah SWT has more than what is in his own hands
  • حَسْبِيَ اللّهُ لا إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ  (Allah is sufficient for me.  There is no deity besides Him.  Upon him I place my faith and He is the Lord of the great Arsh)
    • Whoever recites this seven times in the morning and evening, Allah SWT will be sufficient for him and remove from him all his worries in the dunya and the Hereafter
  • Hadith:  A person who doesn’t ask from Allah, Allah becomes angry with him
    • Not asking from Allah is a sign of arrogance
    • We should have more faith in what Allah has, than what surrounds us
  • Hudhayfah al-Mar’ashi (RAH), who stayed in the company of Ibrahim ibn Adham (RAH), was asked, “Tell me something you experienced whilst living with Ibrahim ibn Adham.”  Hudhayfah narrated:  We were on the way to Makkah and didn’t have any food.  We entered a masjid in Kufah and there was nothing there.  Ibrahim looked towards me and said, “Oh Hudhayfah, I see that you seem to be hungry.”  I replied, “It is as you have seen (meaning he is hungry).”  He said, “Bring me ink and a piece of paper.”  On the paper, after writing bismillah, he wrote:  You [Allah] are my purpose in all states.  Everything I do indicates towards You.  I praise You.  I am grateful to You.  I remember You.  I am hungry.  I am in a state that I have nothing.  I have no clothing.  These are the six things I have mentioned.  I am responsible for half of it [to praise, to be grateful, and to remember You].  So you take responsibility for the other half (my hunger, my state, and my clothing).  If I was to praise anybody besides You, then I would experience the flames of the fire that I would surely enter.  So save Your servant from entering into the fire.”  He gave me the paper and said to me, “Go out and don’t have faith on anybody besides Allah.  Give this piece of paper to the first person you meet.”  So I left and the first person I met was travelling on a mule.  I gave him the piece of paper and he took it.  When he stood after reading it, he started crying.  He asked, “Where is the person who wrote this?”  I said, “He is in such a such masjid.”  Then he gave me a bag with six hundred dinars inside it.  After that, I met another man and asked him, ‘Who was that man on the mule?”  He replied, “He is a Christian.”  I went back to Ibrahim and I narrated what happened.  He said, “Do not touch the bag.  Surely that man is going to come to me.”  After a few moments, the Christian man entered and kissed the forehead of Ibrahim and became Muslim.
    • The note affected the Christian and was a means of his entering into Islam
    • Rizq (sustenance) is Allah’s responsibility
