Continuous Effort

(Do they not know that Allah knows what they conceal and what they whisper, and that Allah is well aware of all the Unseen?  Surah 9, Verse 78)

o   Allah SWT has knowledge of the unseen, everything that has happened and everything that will happen

(Say, “O Allah , Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent   Surah 3, Verse 26)

*   When someone has ownership of a kingdom, everything in the kingdom is done according to their wishes.  Allah SWT has Ownership over everything

*   We do not have ownership over our wealth, body, or lives.  We are not able to spend on anything we want, change the form of our body, or take our lives

(Everyone who is on it (the earth) has to perish.   And your Lord’s Countenance will remain, full of majesty, full of honor.  Surah 55, Verses 26,27)

*   The only thing a person owns and that will remain are those deeds that were done solely for the sake of Allah SWT

The analogy of this dunya is like a person giving us a business and saying, ‘Earn from it what you want.’  When the business is returned to the owner, we get to keep the profits we have earned.  Allah SWT has given us this dunya, a body, and a life and tells us to earn from what He has given us.

(Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze.   Surah 35, Verse 6)

*   Shaytan has made a promise that he is going to continuously take away our good deeds by taking our sincerity, diminishing the quality of our deeds, or corrupting the inside of human beings

*   It is necessary for us to fix our insides so that we are able to save our good deeds

(Surely when the God-fearing are touched by any instigation from Satan, they become conscious (of Allah), and at once they discern (the reality) Surah 7, Verse 201)

*   The diseases of the heart are lifelong diseases that we must always keep an eye on

*   The bad morals inside of us and the ability to commit sin do not vanish because of the effort me make.  They become feeble, but they may revive at any time and pull a man towards sin, which is why we must always be watchful over ourselves

*   Our ibadah is only for our benefit and to keep us in control

*   The effort we make on ourselves has to be continuous because the evil inclination in our heart is continuous

  • Hadith:  A person who misses three consecutive salatul jummahs without any reason loses his iman.

*   This is because jummah is like a pillar holding up a person’s iman from one week to the next, the reward is immense, and a person’s sins are forgiven from one jummah until the next

*   By not praying jummah, a person’s iman will grow weak and he will lose it.  Praying salah is a continuous effort

  • Man has the ability to do good and do bad.  A person’s rank is increased by the struggle he makes to shun his ability to do bad
  • If a person continues in the path to purify himself, he will grow each day.  However, he may not realize the changes within him
  • To feel close to Allah, we don’t have to look anywhere but ourselves
(Obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not quarrel with each other, lest you should lose courage, and your prowess should evaporate; and be patient. Surely, Allah is with the patient.  Surah 8, Verse 46)

*   Arguing brings out the diseases in our hearts and removes barakah

(O you who believe, take care of your own selves. The one who has gone astray cannot harm you, if you are on the right path. To Allah all of you have to return. Then He will tell you what you have been doing  Surah 5, Verse 105)

*   We are not united because we do not have unity within our own heart

*   Rectification starts with ourselves.  If we focus on rectifying ourselves, society will be rectified

(That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous  Surah 28, Verse 83)
  • On the Day of Judgment, when a person opens his deeds there will be certain places blanked out.  We will know something was written there, but it will be erased.  These are the sins that a person did and he sought forgiveness for.  Allah SWT also removes the sin from the memories of the angels, our record, and the memory of the place the sin was committed
  • Like our body cannot survive without water and food, our heart cannot survive without spiritual food.  The ibada we do is our spiritual food
